About Internet Video
The Internet creature being born beneath your curser and often referred to as
"the data superhighway" is actually a heavily rationed commodity; there is
simply
not enough bandwidth (enough room on the highway) to service the demand. Like
the average municipal transportation system, the net too has a rush hour, which
is
known as
prime time;
a daily peak demand that follows the sun across the United
States.
Full motion video requires a continuous stream of 900 photographs (called
frames)
flashing on your screen every minute. Ingenious designs make this possible, but
only to
well-connected
clients. Strict rationing during
prime time,
especially by dialup Internet providers, very often leaves clients with too
little bandwidth to sustain video streams.
The best time to view Internet video is late night or early morning hours.
Like
their worm eating counterparts, early birds get the video.
